I have been so busy I haven’t had a moment! However, I have been up to good things, promise. I have been working on the booklet for the Pekin Days Art Show.  It is a lot of work but a lot of fun too. I thought I’d share a bit on the art show and why we love it.

Josh and I served on the board of the Nelson County Arts Council for three years and learned a bit about non-profits, event planning, design, marketing and finance. The council hosts several events to enrich art in the county and one of my favorite among them is The Pekin Days Art Show.

The Pekin Days Art Show is a juried show open to all artists older than eighteen. Artists have been from all over the country, and Canada. Josh has participated in the show while we were still living in LA but now we have the pleasure of attending the show.  What we love about the Pekin Days Art Show isn’t just the art either.  It’s the atmosphere. The show “produces the largest judged art show and sales in North Dakota, ” according to their website page and yet it manages to feel like a family reunion every time you attend.  The artist have a great respect for each other and the community holds the show and the artists in high regard.

The Mission of the Nelson County Arts Council is to ensure the presentation and preservation of the arts throughout Nelson County by presenting programs and events that will enlighten, instruct and entertain our citizens.

My Pekin Days Art Show entry 2013

Pekin is a very small town but every June it is a hub of activity, art and fun.  Along with the show, the City of Pekin hosts Pekin Days.  The pairing of these events results in lots of great activities for all, from live music to glass blowing demonstrations by artist Jon Offutt.  It’s sure to be a great event this year as well and I look forward to attending.

Though I no longer serve on their board, I enjoy working on their booklet and attending the art show whenever I can. If you ever find yourself in the area in late June, I highly recommend stopping by this small North Dakota town and checking out the Pekin Days Art Show.

This year’s Pekin Days Art Show is June 24 -28th, at the Pekin Auditorium, Pekin ND.  Open to the public Thursday -Saturday 10:00am – 7:00pm and Sunday 10:00am – 4:00pm.  For more about the show check them out here.
